Everbright Environment's CDP 2020 Climate Change Score Improved to A-

9 December 2020, Hong Kong – China Everbright Environment Group Limited ("Everbright Environment" or the "Company") (SEHK: 257) is pleased to announce that the Company's climate change score was improved from B last year to A- in CDP's recent 2020 Climate Change Questionnaire (the "Questionnaire"), as a result of the Company's exceptional performance in environmental management. Everbright Environment's latest score marks the Company's being shortlisted in the Leadership band in the assessment system of the Questionnaire.

According to the CDP score report, Everbright Environment is implementing current best practices relating to climate change. Its A- score is not only higher than the renewable power generation sector average of B, but also much higher than the global average of C and the Asian average of D.

As an international not-for-profit organisation that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas mission, safeguard water resources and protect forest, CDP released the score reports, which were based on the Questionnaire, to help companies understand their scores and indicate which categories require attention for further improvement. This also enables companies to progress towards environmental stewardship through benchmarking and comparison with peers, in order to improve their environmental management and climate governance. Investors could refer to the CDP scores to analyze relevant performance of the companies. The Questionnaire set four major levels, namely Leadership (A/A-), Management (B/B-), Awareness (C/C-) and Disclosure (D/D-). Among all company participants of the Questionnaire, a total of nine companies in Hong Kong scored B- or above, in which only Everbright Environment and AIA Group Ltd. Scored A-, the highest in the city. In Mainland China, four companies scored A- or above, including Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Ping An Insurance Group Company of China Ltd., China Mobile Ltd. and Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co., Ltd.

Mr. Wang Tianyi, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Everbright Environment, said: "Following the Company being recognised as the 'Outstanding Enterprise in Response to Climate Change' award in the CDP China Report 2019 in August 2020, Everbright Environment is honored to receive professional recognition granted by CDP once again. This is a solid proof of the Company's effort in responding to climate change and environmental management. Chinese President Xi Jinping previously said at the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly that China aims to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, which marks the country's first announcement of a carbon neutrality plan in a formal global occasion. Driven by the '3060' carbon targets, as the largest environmental enterprise in China, the world's largest waste-to-energy investor and operation, as well as a world-renowned environmental group, Everbright Environment will adhere to its corporate pursuit of 'Creating Better Investment Value and Undertaking More Social Responsibility'. Be prepared for danger in time of peace, stay cautious and take precautions as needed, and get prepared against adverse events. Everbright Environment will bravely step out of its comfort zone, continue to focus on the areas of environment, energy and resources, safeguard people's living and ecological environment, and work together with all social circles to properly respond to climate change, in order to contribute to the ecological conservation and sustainable development, as well as continuing to promote the concurrent development of the economic, social and environmental benefits."
