General Manager of Everbright Group Wu Lijun Visits Everbright Water's Projects in Jiangsu Province

On 15 and 16 September 2020, Wu Lijun, Deputy CPC Party Secretary, Vice Chairman and General Manager of China Everbright Group Ltd. ("Everbright Group"), and Yu Fachang, Member of the CPC Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Everbright Group, visited Suzhou Wuzhong Chengnan Waste Water Treatment Project ("Suzhou Project") and Nanjing Pukou Industrial Waste Water Treatment Project ("Nanjing Project") of China Everbright Water Limited ("Everbright Water"). Wang Tianyi, CEO of China Everbright Environment Limited ("Everbright Environment"), and An Xuesong, Deputy General Manager of Everbright Environment and CEO of Everbright Water, accompanied them on the visit.

Suzhou Project is located on the shore of Taihu Lake and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, amid flourishing vegetation and clear waters. Wu Lijun visited the project's working areas, exhibition hall and centralised control room, inspecting the discharged water, water quality data and real-time monitoring graphics. He also listened to the briefing on the project's development and waste water treatment processes, and acknowledged the project's operations management proficiency and arrangement on opening up for public visits. As a local benchmark for compliant discharge, Suzhou Project commands a total investment of about RMB890 million, and has a designed household waste water treatment capacity of 150,000 m3.

Nanjing Project is adjacent to the Yangtze River, with a beautiful environment and wide-open spaces. Wu Lijun visited the project's working areas, laboratory center and centralised control room, during which he inquired in detail about the different treatment processes of household waste water and industrial waste water, project treatment capacity, relevant technologies, as well as cost and revenue of such projects. He discussed in detail with staff on issues like improvement of project proficiency and efficiency, innovation and reform, etc. With a total investment of approximately RMB972 million, Nanjing Project has a designed industrial water daily treatment capacity of 60,000 m3. It mainly serves TSMC Nanjing Company Limited, specialising in the treatment of waste water from electronic chip manufacturing, making it one of the few industrial waste water treatment projects in China that operates with high water discharge standards.

During the visits, Wu Lijun was also briefed about the business of Everbright Water, a business sector of Everbright Environment. He learned about many aspects of Everbright Water, such as investment, construction, operation, research and development ("R&D"), as well as the development status of typical projects. He praised the proficiencies of operations management, coordination and planning of the company. In view of the next steps, Wu Lijun pointed out three requirements. Firstly, Everbright Water shall stand high and look far. Pollution prevention and control is one of the three major battles of Completing the Building of a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects in China, and water pollution prevention and control is key to the battle against pollution, which is also an important livelihood project. By standing high, Everbright Water should fulfil its responsibilities as a state-owned enterprise, and integrate ideas and action plans into important decision-making and deployment protocols of the Chinese central government. Secondly, Everbright Water should enhance its strategic planning. It needs to take a long-term view, implementing President Xi Jinping's important instructions and the decisions and allocations made by the CPC Party Central Committee and the State Council of China. By following that, it should proactively plan business in the areas of the ecological and environmental restoration along the Yangtze River Economic Belt and major ecological restoration projects for the Yellow River Basin. By upgrading waste water facilities and properly utilising waste water, Everbright Water could seize development opportunities and expand its market share. Thirdly, Everbright Water should further improve its delicacy management. It needs to strengthen innovation and R&D capabilities, boost economic and social benefits from business operations, and showcase its leading role as the industry's benchmark. It should also strive to achieve high-quality development and overcome the "Not-in-My-Backyard" effect by offering quality environmental services and developing demonstrative projects that benefit the local communities.

Wang Tianyi said that Everbright Environment has always been following high standards for operation and carrying out delicacy management. As a result, it has become the largest environmental protection enterprise in China. In the list of the top 50 environmental enterprises in China published by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce in 2019, Everbright Environment, China Everbright Greentech Limited and Everbright Water ranked No.1, No.16 and No.21 respectively, showcasing their excellent business strengths and market competitiveness. With the care and support of Everbright Group, Everbright Environment firmly carries out the group's "Four-Three-Three" strategy and the general requirements of "deepening reform and steady development", taking value creation as the core element. Everbright Environment has developed the "Three-Five-Eight-Seven" development strategy, making allocations along the whole industry value chain in order to promote high-quality development. It will strive to expand and strengthen its water business sector, increasing water treatment capacity and striving to achieve the goal of having an annual water treatment capacity of 10 million tonnes as soon as it can. Everbright Environment will improve its operational efficiency, taking various measures to improve the average return. It will also strengthen innovation, develop new products, find alternative and subversive technologies to catch up with the trends, in order to achieve the requirement of "quality first, efficiency first, with development in size". During the visits, Wu Lijun met with Ma Xin, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, and Li Yaping, Mayor of Suzhou City, respectively, discussing in detail the developments of Everbright Group and Everbright Environment in Jiangsu Province. Wang Tianyi and An Xuesong accompanied them on these meetings.

Suzhou Wuzhong Chengnan Waste Water Treatment Project

The project commands an investment of approximately RMB890 million, with a designed daily household waste water treatment capacity of 150,000m3. It adopts the process of "Anaerobic-Anoxic-Aerobic Biological Nitrogen and Phosphorus Removal" and "Coagulation, Sedimentation and Filtration". The processed water is discharged into the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal after ultraviolet disinfection, and the discharged water complies with the discharged water complying with the national Grade 1A standard according to the Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant (GB18918-2002), In 2019, the project was included in the social practice experience station of minors in Suzhou, and became one of the practice bases of civilised interest education for minors in the city. In recent years, the project was awarded the "Excellent Sewage Treatment Plant" and "Excellent Enterprise of Operation and Management" by Jiangsu Housing and Construction Department, and "Health Unit" by Jiangsu Province in 2020.

Nanjing Pukou Industrial Waste Water Treatment Project

The project commands an investment of approximately RMB972 million, with a designed daily waste water treatment capacity of 60,000 m3. It is specialised in the treatment of waste water from electronic chip manufacturing, which is one of the few industrial waste water treatment plants in China that implements such high standards for waste water treatment. The first phase of the project was already completed, with a designed daily waste water treatment capacity of 10,000 m3, mainly serving TSMC (Nanjing) Co. Ltd. The project adopts "Reactive Sedimentation + Biochemical Treatment + Advanced Fluorine Removal" as the main process method. Its sludge treatment adopts a pressure filtration dehydration process. After dehydration, the water content of the sludge is reduced to less than 60% for outward disposal, the processed water will be discharged into the Yangtze River, and the discharged water complies with the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water (GB3838-2002) for Category V.
