Everbright International Zhenjiang Waste-to-energy Project Starts On-Grid Power Generation

Further Consolidate Market Leading Presence

China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or "the Group") announced that its Zhenjiang Waste-to-energy Project ("Zhenjiang Project" or "the Project") has been connected to a power grid and commenced electricity generation on 26 August 2011, opening a new chapter in effective reduction, recycling and harmlessness treatment of household waste in Zhenjiang City.

The total investment of Zhenjiang Project was approximately RMB413 million. Built on a BOT basis, the Group has obtained the operation concession for a period of 30 years. With designed waste processing capacity of 1,000 tonnes per days, the project is designed to supply 100,000,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity to the power grid per year during the concession period. The project is equipped with three furnaces each with a daily processing capacity of 350 tonnes and two 12,000 kilowatt-hours generators. The project started construction in March 2010 and was connected to the power grid on 26 August 2011.

Mr. Chen Xiaoping, Chief Executive Officer of Everbright International, said, "Zhenjiang Project is the first waste-to-energy project that starts operation this year in the PRC, and becomes our seventh project after Suzhou Project Phase I and II, Yixing Project, Jiangyin Project Phase I and II as well as Changzhou Project. We have installed our self-developed grate furnaces, designed specifically to process household waste of the composition discarded in PRC.The operating performance of the furnaces is ideal with low investment and operational cost. To date, the project has been running smoothly, and has further extended our leading presence in the Chinese waste-to-energy market."

He continued, "The bottleneck in the waste-to-energy sector in the PRC is becoming less of a technical challenge or a need of money, and requires a more serious commitment to social responsibility. By focusing on the alternative energy and environmental protection businesses, Everbright International will continue to broaden its corporate responsibility in the areas of environmental protection and emission reduction. Dedicated to improving our waste-to-energy technology, we can transform the waste into a value-added product. While promoting waste-to-energy projects nationwide and elsewhere in Asia, we will help solve the problem of solid waste landfill thoroughly, thereby creating a better living environment for the next generation."
